Alverthorpe is Abington's crown-jewel park: a large, beautifully kept space with something for every age. Younger children have a dedicated preschool play area, and in summer there's a wading pool for kids five and under. Beyond the playground, families can fish the lake, play a round on the 18-hole mini-golf course, walk the trails, or use the ball fields and courts. Pavilions and grills make it a good pick for a group day out.

One important thing to know: Alverthorpe is open only to Abington Township residents and their guests, and you'll need to show proof of residency at the entrance. If you're not a township resident, plan to go as a resident's guest.

Hours are seasonal, generally from morning until dusk, with longer summer hours. The wading pool runs in summer only. It's always worth checking the park's current hours before you go.
