Third Grade
Learning comes alive through exploration, field trips, and real-world connections.
What Makes Third Grade Special
Third grade is a special time in a Meadowbrook student's life when learning is not restricted to the book but is made to come alive in new and interesting ways. Third grade is full of activities that utilize learning outside of the classroom, from trips to Pennsbury Manor to visit the home of William Penn to traveling to Philadelphia as part of our Pennsylvania unit.

Third Grade Curriculum
A comprehensive, hands-on approach to learning that sparks curiosity and builds confidence.
Language Arts
Third graders become confident readers and writers by exploring different authors, styles, and genres. They practice comprehension by studying characters, themes, and storylines while writing journals, letters, poetry, and sequels to stories. Students build public speaking skills through storytelling, poetry reading, and school presentations. We use Fountas & Pinnell to support reading and writing growth.
Math
With Math in Focus, students discover how math connects to everyday life. Hands-on activities and real-world examples help them see math as a tool for problem-solving, not just numbers on a page.
Social Studies
Students study Pennsylvania and the theme of friendship, tying these lessons into their reading and writing. We also focus on Indigenous studies of the Lenni-Lenape and other tribes, including an immersive experience at the Churchville Nature Center.
"Third grade was transformative. The field trips and hands-on projects made our son fall in love with history and science in ways we never expected."
